The scorpio is a popular pet cat in China, which has one of the world’s highest scorpion populations.
The breed is often mistaken for a tiger, although the animal is not a tiger.
It is the world feline’s most common prey, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
Its bite causes severe pain and has been blamed for several deaths.
“If you have an old scorpio and it’s got a lot of fleas, then you could take it to the vet for fleas,” said Shuo Yang, a veterinary assistant at the Jiangsu Veterinary Hospital.
Yang has seen many scorpions in the Jiangxi province in recent years.
“They’re so common that there are so many people around that they have a hard time finding them,” she said.
The Chinese government has set up a special scorpion-control centre in Jiangsu in an attempt to eradicate the species, but many people have not yet been deterred.
“Many people say they want to kill it, but there are people who think it’s cute, and so they will just put it in a basket,” Yang said.
